Shawn Everitt, the CAO of the Town of The Blue Mountains is leaving the town to join a neighbouring municipality.

On March 25, in simultaneous announcements, The Blue Mountains and the Municipality of Meaford announced that Everitt would be transferring his flag up Highway 26 from Thornbury to Meaford.

The two municipalities announced that Everitt had been appointed the new CAO for the Municipality of Meaford. He will start the job on April 8. Earlier this year, The Blue Mountains announced Everitt was on “extended leave.” Meaford has been in the market for a new CAO since the departure of Kymm Buckman in November 2024.

“The Town of The Blue Mountains has been extraordinarily fortunate and has benefited greatly to have Shawn Everitt as a dedicated employee for over three decades,” Mayor Andrea Matrosovs said in a news release. “I would like to thank Shawn for his dedication, passion and leadership in supporting town initiatives and for guiding and inspiring employees at all levels in the organization. He has helped guide the town through transformational changes and we are truly grateful for his service.”

Everitt was hired as Chief Administrative Officer in 2019, after serving as interim CAO since 2017. He started with the Town in 1993 as Manager of the Community Centre before joining the town’s senior management team as the director of community services in 2005.

During Everitt’s leave, Adam Smith was named Acting CAO in January 2025. Smith has been with the town since 2022 as the director of planning and development services.

“I’m very excited to get to work and look forward to meeting the team in Meaford,” Everitt said in a news release from Meaford. “This will be a big change after more than 30 years with The Blue Mountains, but I have a deep passion for this incredible region and feel extremely fortunate to have this opportunity.”

Meaford Mayor Ross Kentner welcomed Everitt to his community.

“We are thrilled to welcome Shawn to the Municipality of Meaford,” said Kentner in the news release. “His proven leadership, dedication to public service, and passion for the South Georgian Bay region make him an excellent fit for our community. We look forward to working together to continue building a strong, vibrant Meaford.”

Matrosovs said The Blue Mountains plans to conduct a process to add a new CAO.

“Acting CAO Smith has done a tremendous job in his role these past months,” said Matrosovs. “We appreciate the work he has done taking on this additional responsibility as the town begins a ... search for a permanent CAO.”
