As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve locally, the town of the Blue Mountains council decided to close all municipal facilities.
Following the conclusion of today's committee of the whole meeting, all municipal facilities will be closed to the public until April 17, including town hall, the Blue Mountains Public Library, Beaver Valley Community Centre, Craigleith Small Hall and Ravenna Hall.
All TBM police board, town council and committee of the whole meetings will also be cancelled, with the exception of a special meeting on March 30.
The March 30 special meeting of council will be held to address the appointment of a new councillor to the vacant council seat, the 2020 budget approval and any special reports related to COVID-19.
The meeting will be closed to the public but will be available to town residents via the TBM’s live stream channel.
All previously scheduled public meetings and public information sessions will be postponed to a later date.
The decision to close all municipal facilities was discussed and carried at a special committee of the whole meeting held this morning at the TBM town hall.
“The town’s senior and leadership staff are continuing to meet frequently and we want to assure the public and town residents that all critical services in the TBM are still being properly conducted,” says Tim Hendry, director of communications and economic development with the TBM. “Staff are still operating within town hall and residents can be assured that there are staff here to assist with their needs. Although the building is closed to the public, town staff can always be reached through our website and by telephone.”
The TBM has also established a dedicated webpage for COVID-19 on its website to provide updates to the community.
