The Blue Mountains councillor Gail Ardiel is seeking a position on the board of directors of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO).

Ardiel announced her intention to run for a director’s position through the small urban caucus of the AMO at council’s meeting on June 3.

“It is very exciting to be there. You get to hear first-hand what AMO is doing and presenting,” Ardiel said in an interview. “I have learned a lot sitting on AMO.”

Ardiel, a long-time veteran of local government, has served on AMO in the past. She is currently a member of the executive for Ontario Small Urban Municipalities and has represented The Blue Mountains at Grey County council as deputy mayor during her career in municipal government.

The AMO conference will be held in Ottawa in August. If elected, Ardiel would serve on the board from 2024 to 2026.

“I enjoy sitting on AMO. It’s a great networking opportunity and there is real collaboration on what happens in our province,” said Ardiel.

Council was fully supportive of Ardiel’s bid for a spot on the AMO board and unanimously passed a resolution supporting her candidacy for the position.

“This is an excellent idea and we wish you the very best,” said Mayor Andrea Matrosovs, who said representatives from The Blue Mountains attending the conference would be on hand to assist Ardiel with her campaign.
