The Thornbury/Clarksburg Rotary Club has ambitious plans to upgrade and revitalize Moreau Park in Thornbury.

The Thornbury/Clarksburg Rotary Club is anxious to get working on upgrades to Moreau Park in Thornbury.

Rotarian Steve Schofield was a delegation at The Blue Mountains council meeting on Dec. 16 and he said the club is looking forward to plans to upgrade and revitalize Moreau Park.

Schofield attended council to provide an update about the local Rotary Club’s recent activities and said for the first time the club is releasing its financial details to the public.

“Not many people in the Town of The Blue Mountains know everything our Rotary Club does in a given year,” said Schofield.

Since 2022, the club has been raising funds for the Moreau Park revitalization project in partnership with the town. The club approached council in Sept. 2022 about the project and has been setting aside money towards its $200,000 goal for the project.

“We’re looking forward to a shovel going in the ground maybe next summer,” Schofield said.

The plan, if implemented, would see Moreau Park, currently the home of multiple baseball diamonds, a skateboard board and children’s play area, upgraded to include a modernized skate park for all ages and abilities, a year-round walking path, a sensory garden and an accessible playground.

Schofield explained that the 30-member rotary club (14 of the members are female) raises money for various community projects as well as international aid efforts.

In 2023, the club handed out $29,781.13 in local donations, $10,714.86 in international donations and $8,512.99 for youth initiatives.

Members of council took turns thanking Rotarians for their hard work and commitment to the community.

“As a former Rotarian, I understand the dedication that’s in your hearts,” said Mayor Andrea Matrosovs.
