The Town of The Blue Mountains is hoping to secure grant funding to assist with upgrades to the Beaver Valley Community Centre.

At its meeting on Oct. 21, council approved a staff report that requested support for a staff initiative to apply to the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund for work that needs to be done at the community centre in Thornbury.

The provincial government established the fund to support community sports and recreation facilities. Between $150,000 and $1 million is available through the fund. Projects are required to be completed within two years of receipt of the money.

“The town would like to apply for the grant to correct deficiencies at the Beaver Valley Community Centre. This would include new HVAC systems, repair critical structural defects and create more accessible programming space at the arena,” Phil Pesek, the town’s manager of facilities and fleet, said in a report.

The town has an annual budget of $500,000 for facility upgrades and the grant funding would allow more work/upgrade to be completed should the town’s application be successful.
