The Town of The Blue Mountains needs a member of the public to join its committee of adjustment.
At a special meeting on March 4, council accepted the resignation of committee of adjustment member Greg Aspin and thanked him for his service to the community.
The clerk’s office will now advertise for a member from the public to join the committee.
The committee of adjustment is an independent quasi-judicial body appointed by council, under authority granted by the province. The committee is composed of five members of the public who are appointed by council.
The committee has the authority to grant minor variances from the town’s zoning bylaw and fence bylaw and other associated powers under section 45(2) of the Planning Act with extensions and similar/compatible uses to non-conforming uses, and conformity of uses that are defined in general terms.
The town’s committee of adjustment holds public hearings the third Wednesday of each month. Members of the committee receive compensation for their work.
