Community members in the Town of the Blue Mountains (TBM) have stirred into action together this holiday season to offer a Christmas dinner to residents and those in need.
Through the town’s Community Recovery Task Force, a diverse collection of local service clubs, groups, organizations and associations, a Christmas Dinner sub-committee was formed to plan and organize the preparation and delivery of 500 Christmas dinners.
“I would like to acknowledge and highlight the great work of the Community Recovery Task Force and the Christmas Dinner Sub-Committee,” said TBM Mayor Alar Soever. “The group identified a need within the community and through partnership found a unique, safe and health-unit-approved way to raise the community spirit this holiday.”
Of the 500 dinners, 250 were purchased by community members and another 250 were purchased through generous community donations and distributed to those in need through the St. George’s Community Cares program.
On Saturday, volunteers held a drive-thru pick-up event for those who had purchased a Christmas dinner. The meals that were donated were delivered on Friday.
“I would like to extend gratitude to everyone who contributed a donation to purchase a dinner,” said Soever. “This initiative is another great example of the strength of our community and how we can all work to support each other through challenging times.”
The Community Christmas Dinner event also marked the launch of TBM’s Holiday Experience Video, which features musical performances, community greetings, ministerial services and more.

“Any money raised over and above what will cover this cost will go directly into the St. George's food program to help them continue that great work as they move forward,” added TBM Councillor Peter Bordignon.
