Early this morning a home in Lora Bay (Thornbury) was destroyed in a fire.
The Blue Mountains Fire Chief Steve Conn said there was nobody living in the home, but it had just sold for $7 million last week. The deal was to close this spring.
A neighbour called 911 this morning (Jan. 11) at about 3 a.m. When firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames, reported Conn.
The home was at 189 Lake Drive.
OPP and fire crews are on scene. Conn said firefighters are currently dealing with hotspots and he is arranging for heavy equipment to take down the rest of the structure.
The cause of the fire is undetermined. The Ontario Fire Marshal's office has been called in to investigate the cause and because of the high dollar loss resulting from the fire.
This fire was the height of a busy weekend for The Blue Mountains firefighters who responded to a call about a kitchen fire at Craigleith Shores while fighting the fire in Lora Bay. There was also a chimney fire call on Woodland Road on Saturday. On Friday, TBM fire crews were called by OPP to assist in the rescue of a hiker who had gotten lost in Pretty River Valley. She had made her way out on her own when fire crews arrived, reported Conn.
