The Town of The Blue Mountains would like to advise residents that Moorefield Excavating has been awarded the construction tender for Phase 1B of the Thornbury West Reconstruction Project. Following Council’s reconsideration and approval of the final design of Louisa Street West in November of 2024, construction of Phase 1B will proceed in 2025.
The project area includes full reconstruction of Lorne Street, Park Lane, Elma Street from Louisa Street to Alfred Street, Louisa Street from Bruce Street to Elma Street, and the remaining portion of Alice Street from Bruce Street to the end of the Phase 1A construction limits. In total, Phase 1B covers 1,045 metres of roads and includes replacement of:
- 1,160 metres of sanitary sewer
- 1,180 metres of storm sewer
- 1,220 metres of watermain
- 2,270 metres of curb
- 2,220 metres of sidewalk
- 60 sanitary, storm and water services
Preliminary engineering of the project began in 2016, with construction of Phase 1A being completed in 2023. Phase 1B is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Town staff and the contractor have already visited the site to mark trees that require removal in advance of construction. Removals are expected to begin the week of March 24. Town staff and the consulting engineer have made a concerted effort throughout the design process to preserve as many mature trees as possible. Street trees will be replanted following construction, and the Town will also be planting a new urban forest on the south side of Louisa Street West between Bruce Street and Elma Street with hundreds of saplings and shrubs.
