THE TOWN OF THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ON – (October 7, 2024): The Blue Mountains Public Library (BMPL), Beaver Valley Outreach (BVO), Thornbury-Clarksburg Rotary Club, and the Town of The Blue Mountains are celebrating Ontario Public Library Week a bit early with the official launch of five new Little Free Libraries & Food Pantry across the community.

Residents and visitors are invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Little Free Library & Food Pantry at Ravenna Memorial Park on Friday, October 11 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. This event offers the opportunity to learn more about the project and encourages the public to travel to all five locations to discover their uniqueness.

"The Little Free Libraries and Food Pantry initiative reflects our community's commitment to literacy and food security," shares Mayor Andrea Matrosovs. "We are proud to support this collaboration and encourage everyone to visit these unique spaces, showcasing the creativity and generosity of our residents."

“Little Free Libraries are about building community, inspiring readers, and expanding access to books. Adding a Food Pantry from BVO ensures our community has barrier-free food security,” says Carolyn Letourneau, Executive Director at Beaver Valley Outreach.

The ‘Take what you need; Give when you can’ Little Free Libraries & Food Pantry will be monitored by both BMPL and BVO. Neighbours are also encouraged to contribute by adding their own books and pantry items.

“The students at Georgian Bay Community School did a fabulous job crafting and painting the Little Free Libraries & Food Pantry. It’s quite special to travel to each one to see the handiwork of our community’s youth,” says Mary Lye, Rotarian at Thornbury-Clarksburg Rotary Club.

Little Free Libraries are located at the L.E. Shore Library, Moreau Park, behind BVO on the Georgian Trail, the Craigleith Heritage Depot, and Ravenna Memorial Park.
