The Blue Mountains Fire Department Reminds Residents to Fall Back and Check Alarms on November 3

The Town of The Blue Mountains Fire Department would like to remind residents that clocks will fall back one hour at 1 a.m. on Sunday, November 3. When they change their clocks, the Blue Mountains Fire Department recommends that residents install new batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. 

Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms require working batteries to function properly. Once a year, old batteries should be replaced with new batteries. Alarms provide an early warning in the event of an emergency, and The Blue Mountains Fire Department encourages residents to have an emergency plan to know what to do in the event of a fire. Working smoke alarms are required on every storey of the home and outside all sleeping areas. For added protection, it is recommended to also install smoke alarms inside all bedrooms.  

If your home has a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace, or attached garage, carbon monoxide alarms must be installed outside all sleeping areas.

Tampering with or removing the batteries from your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms is against the law. Failure to comply with the Fire Code can result in a ticket for $360 or a fine of up to $50,000.
