86 more deaths attributed to COVID-19 today in Ontario

Ontario Public Health reports another 459 lab-confirmed cases and 593 recoveries

Ontario is reporting 86 new COVID-19 related deaths this morning.

This is the highest number of deaths yet reported in a single day by the province. Of those, nine were residents or patients at long-term care facilities.

The province is also reporting 459 new cases of COVID-19, up from 347 reported yesterday, but down from 525 reported on Tuesday.

There have also been 593 recoveries reported since yesterday, and the report states there were 12,928 tests processed in a single day. There remain 11,859 tests awaiting results.

In all, Ontario has reported 16,187 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, 1,082 people have died and 10,205 people have recovered. The province has processed 277,522 tests.

There are now 999 people hospitalized with COVID-19 and 233 of those are in intensive care. There are 181 COVID-19 patients on ventilators.

According to data recorded by the Ministry of Long-Term Care, there are now 163 outbreaks in long-term care facilities, including 2,614 cases confirmed in long-term care residents and 1,430 cases confirmed in staff. The ministry is reporting there have been 835 deaths of residents attributed to COVID-19. Ontario Public health has reported 530 deaths of long-term care residents, which is approximately half of the total deaths reported by the province.

Ontario Public Health has also reported there have been seven deaths in people aged 20 to 39 years, 49 in people aged 40-59, and 282 in people aged 60 to 79. There have been 744 deaths reported by Ontario Public Health in people aged 80 and over.

In the Simcoe Muskoka region, there are five outbreaks at long-term care centres, and one outbreak has been resolved. There have been cases confirmed in 11 staff and 34 residents at Bradford Valley Care Community. Seven residents have died. There has been confirmed cases in one resident and one staff member at Owen Hill Care Community (Barrie), one staff member at IOOF (Barrie), and two staff members at Woods Park Retirement Residence (Barrie), and one case confirmed in a resident at an unnamed group home in Bradford.

There have been 267 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in the Simcoe Muskoka region. There are now eight people hospitalized, 148 recoveries, and 15 deaths.

In total, there have been 91 community-acquired cases, 63 close contact cases, and 54 associated with travel. In total there are 36 cases associated with outbreaks at long-term care homes and another 15 undetermined transmission cases, another eight are listed under investigation.

The case breakdown by municipality/city is as follows:

Bradford W-G (68 cases, 24 recoveries, 7 deaths), Barrie (77 cases, 44 recoveries, 2 deaths), New Tecumseth (19 cases, 15 recoveries), Orillia (12 cases, 8 recoveries, 2 deaths), Collingwood (8 cases, 7 recoveries), Innisfil (20 cases, 7 recoveries), Springwater (6 cases, 4 recoveries), Midland (6 cases, 4 recoveries), Wasaga Beach (8 cases, 4 recoveries, 1 death), Oro-Medonte (5 cases, 2 recoveries, 1 death), Adjala-Tosorontio (7 cases, 4 recoveries), Clearview (2 cases, all recovered), Essa (5 cases, 2 recoveries), Ramara (2 cases, 2 recoveries), Tiny (2 cases, all recovered), Penetanguishene (2 cases, all recovered) for a total of 249 cases in Simcoe County, including 133 recoveries.

There are also 17 confirmed positive cases in Muskoka, and 15 have recovered.

The case rate (including lab-confirmed cases only) for Simcoe Muskoka region is 45.2 cases per 100,000 population. The provincial average is 108.9 cases per 100,000 population.
