Collingwood’s YMCA is working on a reopening plan and schedule to be revealed in the coming weeks.
The local recreation facility has, however, resumed some of its services.
The Y opened its licensed childcare programs this summer, including day camp programs, which wrap up Sept. 4. Before and after school care programs will reopen next week as schools reopen.
Brian Shelley, vice president of YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka, said the Y is turning its attention to reopening the health and fitness centre to the community.
“We will be sharing a reopening schedule in the coming weeks,” said Shelley, noting the Y is working with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit on a reopening plan that addresses cleaning standards, reconfiguring equipment to allow for three-metres of physical distancing, and optimizing ventilation systems for the conditioning room.
“In the interim, the Y will be hosting outdoor fitness classes at our Collingwood and Wasaga locations from Sept. 14 into early October,” said Shelley.
At the beginning of August, YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka announced it was closing its fitness facilities in Barrie, Orillia, and Parry Sound.
A statement from CEO Rob Armstrong noted the facilities were not “financially feasible.”
