CollingwoodToday welcomes letters to the editor at [email protected] or via the website. Please include your full name, daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). Note, the tariffs promised by both President Trump and Prime Minister Trudeau are now on hold, which happened after this letter was submitted.

A terrible day with the implementation of the tariffs.

Of course, these tariffs have nothing to do with the border, drugs or defence spending.

Trump has a problem of wanting big tax cuts and plenty of spending with a group of republicans, like Chip Roy of Texas, fighting big deficits like Trump had his first term.

He needs money, and tariffs are a great tax for him, and he can blame the resulting inflation on others like Canada, Mexico and China.

There will be many responses, but we really should be promoting tourism.

Millions of Americans didn't vote for Trump and with our low dollar, Americans spending their vacation in places like Collingwood would be a huge attraction. Let us all be creative in fighting these unjust tariffs.
