The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting 126 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths in its latest update published Dec. 21.
The two deaths reported today include a Barrie and a Bradford resident.
The health unit reported the death of a man between 45 and 64 years old and a woman over 79 years old, both from Simcoe County. The man died Dec. 7 and the woman died Dec. 20.
The new cases include:
- Collingwood (6)
- One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, three people between 35-44 years old, and one person between 65-79 years old. All six cases are still under investigation.
- Clearview (3)
- One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 35 and 44 years old. All three cases are still under investigation.
- Barrie (44)
- Nine youth under 18, 11 people between 18 and 34 years old, six people between 35 and 44 years old, 10 people between 45 and 64 years old, five people between 65 and 79 years old, and three people over 79 years old. Seven cases are outbreak-related and the rest are still under investigation.
- There is an active outbreak at The Barrieview Retirement Home, declared Dec. 17, and there are nine resident cases, and fewer than five staff cases reported with the outbreak to date.
- Springwater (12)
- Four youth under 18, one person between 18 and 34 years old, five people between 35 and 44 years old, and two people between 45 and 64 years old. All 12 cases are still under investigation.
- Innisfil (13)
- Two youth under 18, one person between 18 and 34 years old, six people between 35 and 44 years old, three people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person over 79 years old. One case is listed as community-acquired (no known link), one is related to close contact, and one is outbreak-related. The rest are still under investigation.
- Bradford (11)
- Two youth under 18, three people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, and four people between 45 and 64 years old. One case is outbreak-related and the rest are still under investigation.
- Orillia (2)
- Two people between 18 and 34 years old. Both cases are still under investigation.
- Severn (1)
- One person between 35 and 44 years old whose case is still under investigation.
- Ramara (1)
- One youth under 18 years old whose case is still under investigation.
- Midland (7)
- Two youth under 18, three people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One case is listed as community-acquired (no known link) and the rest are still under investigation.
- Tay (2)
- One youth under 18 years old and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Both cases are still under investigation.
- Tiny (3)
- Two people between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 65 and 79 years old. All three cases are still under investigation.
- Penetanguishene (3)
- One person between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years oldand one person between 45 and 64 years old. All three cases are still under investigation.
- Essa (3)
- One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 35 and 44 years old. All three cases are still under investigation.
- New Tecumseth (6)
- One youth under 18 years old and five people between 18 and 34 years old. One case is outbreak-related and the rest are still under investigation.
- Adjala-Tosorontio (1)
- One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is outbreak-related.
- Muskoka (8): Bracebridge (4), Muskoka Lakes (1), Gravenhurst (3)
Included in the new cases reported today are 35 unvaccinated, six partially vaccinated, and 84 fully vaccinated people.
There are 1,384 active cases in the region.
Two people have been hospitalized since Friday's report for a total of 26 Simcoe-Muskoka residents currently hospitalized with COVID-19.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 17,735 cases of COVID-19 with 16,065 of those cases recovered and 286 cases ending in death.
About 75 per cent of the entire population of Simcoe-Muskoka has been fully vaccinated. Currently, 84 per cent of the population that is five years of age or older has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine.

The health unit does sometimes remove a case or move them based on further investigation of location data. The chart below reflects updated totals for each municipality as reported by the health unit on Dec. 21.
