The 8th annual Diva on a Dime event returns next month, featuring brand-name new and gently used formal and semi-formal dresses available by donation.
The event began as a way for the Kinettes to help make sure girls who wanted to attend prom or graduation weren’t left out. Since then, with an outpouring of dress donations, the event has expanded to offer all kinds of dresses for many occasions.
Cathie Brillinger is the chair of the event, and though she’s tried to keep track of the number of women who come in looking for a dress, she loses count each year.
In addition to community donations, Elaine Dickinson’s and Exchanging Vows Bridal Boutique have donated some new dresses for the sale.
Brillinger receives donations through the year now the event is widely known in the community. She will be accepting donations up to and including the day of the event. To arrange a donation send an email or direct message via Facebook. Donations may also be dropped off at Exchanging Vows Bridal Boutique or Dadswell Denture Clinic in Collingwood.
The Kinettes put out hundreds of dresses each year, all in various colours, sizes and styles. Most are formal dresses, but there are a few more casual options for others who might need a dress for another special occasion. There’s a limited amount of shoes and accessories as well.
Diva on a Dime will be open at Exchanging Vows Bridal Boutique at 246 Hurontario Street on Sunday, April 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
