Blue Mountain film fest names new programming director

Jason Gorber is the new director of film programming for the Blue Mountain Film + Media Festival.

The Blue Mountain Film +Media Festival welcomes a new programming director to their ranks as they gear up for the fourth annual festival this May.

Jason Gorber, a film journalist and critic, was announced to the position in a news release last week.

“It is my extreme honour to be joining the team at the Blue Mountain Film + Media Festival,” said Gorber in the release.

“I am proud to be working alongside my team of associate programmers, as well as my colleagues running the forum and our world-class operations staff, in order to make this year’s event all the more extraordinary,” he said.

As a life-long film fan and festival attendee, Gorber called it “an absolute dream” to be able to share his passion for movies with the community.

The annual festival will be running May 29 to June 1 this year at Blue Mountain Village Conference Centre, and early-bird passes are now on sale. This year’s BMFM’s Creative Forum will run May 28 to 31, and will provide opportunities for networking, discussion and facilitated meetings.

Industry greats confirmed to attend so far include Rachel Nelson (Corus), Jocelyn Hamilton (Lionsgate Canada), Virginia Rankin (Blink49 Studios), Mark Montefiore (New Metric Media), Sally Catto (CBC), Teza Lawrence (Amaze), Daniel Bekerman (Scythia Films) and Matt Orenstein (Vortex Media).

New this year will be Live pitch competitions, where filmmakers can present feature film and programmatic projects to industry experts with prizes available. Deadline to apply to the pitch competition is March 28.

Also featured will be a lunch and breakfast event, offering participants a rare chance to gain insights and advice from key industry leaders in an intimate setting.

A behind-the-scenes session with Daniel Bekerman, producer of The Witch and The Apprentice, which has been nominated for two Academy Awards.
