A fire last evening consumed about 100 feet of boardwalk trail along the Collingwood waterfront.

A fire that started in the waterfront reeds consumed about 100 feet of boardwalk trail last night.

Deputy Fire Chief Dan Thurman said the fire was "huge" and required all Collingwood firefighters on duty (35) to attend. He said there's no way to know what caused the fire since it originated in a field.

The fire call came in at about 6 p.m. on May 9, and after firefighters had fought the blaze and returned to the station, they were called back again as the fire had reignited.

The boardwalk is part Harbourview Park on the west end of Collingwood, and makes up part of the trail network included in the park and the Collingwood Arboretum. Click below for video of the Collingwood firefighters battling the fire.
