Tom Bell and Jane Moore were the first-place winners at a regional open pairs tournament in Collingwood on Aug. 24.

A relative newbie and a seasoned veteran took home lawn bowling glory this weekend at a tournament in Collingwood.

Collingwood residents Tom Bell and Jane Moore took home first place in a regional open pairs tournament on Aug. 24, where lawn bowlers from Orillia, Midland, Stayner and others all came to Collingwood’s grass rink to compete in the friendly game.

“It’s one of the first tournaments we’ve held since COVID,” said Bell. “I’ve only been bowling for two years. For me, it felt really good. For me to team up with Jane felt really terrific.”

Moore, who also serves as president of the Collingwood Lawn Bowling Club, said The Brick in Collingwood came through as a sponsor this year, and put up the prizes for this year’s winners. The duo split the $200 first prize.

“We won all three games. It’s the first time I’ve won all three. We were a good team,” said Moore.
