The Collingwood Public Library is in the midst of reorganizing the layout of its collection and services to better serve its public. On Friday, June 14 the library will be closed to complete the majority of the move.

Collingwood Public Library had found that the space within the library was not being used as effectively as it could have been and elected to reorganize its space.

“Teens have not been using the area on the first floor for studying, computer use, or accessing the collection. Instead, youth have been using the second floor for library programmes and group work,” said Ashley Kulchycki, Children & Teen Services Supervisor. “After discussing with teens what they would like to see at the library, the decision was made to move our teen services and collection to the second floor to better serve our patrons.”

Moving the teen services department to the second floor, has opened up other opportunities as well.

“With the teen collection moving upstairs,” says Ken Haigh, CEO of the Library, “we now have space on the first floor to create a comfortable seating area closer to the entrance for reading magazines and newspapers. This will allow for more accessible seating on the main level of the library.”

The library will be shifting the newspapers and magazines down to the first floor across from the DVD collection, while creating a new seating area for those who wish to enjoy the daily paper. The teen services, collection and computers will be moved to the second floor, where quiet study areas will remain. The bulk of this move will happen on Friday, June 14, while the library is closed, to ensure service is not disrupted.

The library staff is working to ensure that the shift is seamless. However, they do advise that their collection may be unorganized for a few days as they complete the move and some aspects of the move will happen before Friday, June 14.

The Collingwood Public Library is committed to guiding our community in the pursuit of information, the wonder of lifelong learning, and the enrichment of social and cultural experiences. At the heart of the community, the Collingwood Public Library is an inclusive environment seeking universal accessibility.
