Another corner of the former shipyards is primed for construction with site plan approval granted by Collingwood council last night.
Fram and Slokker Collingwood Development Ltd. submitted an application to the town to build 10 townhouses and three bungalows on the promenade overlooking the water. The land - currently vacant - is located on the east side of North Pine Street near Wheelhouse Crescent and is approximately 1.36 acres.
The townhouses will front on the Promenade, with four units in one three-storey building and six in another. There will also be three bungalows built fronting North Pine Street.
The building design matches the adjacent Shipyards Condominiums.
With site plan approval in place, F.S. Collingwood Development can apply for building permits.
At the Aug. 12 Development and Operations Committee meeting, Fred Sarafaro, a representative of Fram and Slokker told the committee the developers originally planned higher buildings.
“Over time, our impetus has been to move the Shipyards development along and have it completed,” he said. “We’ve resized our products to townhomes and maintained the architectural feel with a lot of brick and industrial components.”
He said there is only one remaining block once this one is developed in the Fram and Slokker Shipyards development and he looks forward to bringing an application to council for the final block in the future.
Council unanimously granted approval of the site plan during the regular meeting last night, Aug. 26.
