An evergreen will get a 'spectacular' retirement this year as the official Collingwood Downtown BIA Christmas Tree.

The tree, which is being decorated today, came from a property on Spruce Street where it had outgrown the property and had to be removed.

"This is a great way for a property owner to give their beautiful tree a final home for the Christmas season and help make our downtown festive," said Susan Nicholson, general manager of the Collingwood Downtown BIA.

The BIA has contracted Artisan Streetscapes for the decorating and lighting of the tree, which will take about 35 hours according to Nicholson.

Artisan Streetscapes is the same company that is contracted to do the Bell Media tree in Toronto, and the lights usually reserved for the Bell tree are being used on Collingwood's tree.

"It will be spectacular," said Nicholson.

The tree is located on Hurontario Street next to the federal building and the BIA is hoping to flip the switch and light the lights on Friday night.
