No new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Collingwood today.
Yesterday Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported three new cases in Collingwood, one was community-acquired (woman in her 20s) and the others are listed under investigation (a man in his 70s and a woman in her 80s).
There have been 11 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Collingwood residents, plus another case in a person who has since moved out of the region. Of the 11 cases, seven have recovered, and there are two people hospitalized.
Three more cases were also announced in Wasaga Beach yesterday, bringing the total for the neighbouring town to 11 cases, with five recoveries, one death, and one person hospitalized.
Clearview has had six cases, two have recovered and one person is hospitalized.
Ontario is reporting 399 new cases of COVID-19 today, as well as 347 recoveries and 48 deaths.
Premier Doug Ford announced he spoke with cottage country mayors yesterday and encouraged seasonal residents travelling to their cottages to follow public health measures for gatherings and physical distancing. He also said the mayors are asking visitors to "hold-off" on travelling to cottage country regions until it is safe to do so.
Dr. Charles Gardner, medical officer of health for Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit said the province's future decisions on when to lift restrictions and which measures to relax will not be without risk. He suggested the spread of the virus must be monitored closely and restrictions reapplied if a new surge begins.
Gardner also said the practice of celebration parades for birthdays or frontline workers can be safe, but only if people stay inside their cars and avoid congregating before and after the parade.
The Town of Collingwood posted a notice to its website asking people to stay at their primary residence and not to make day trips or visit cottages in Collingwood "at this time."
The County of Simcoe has postponed its clothing and bulky collection programs for now, and is also not offering compost sales during the pandemic.
