The headliner for the evening is Jerry Leger, a Canadian artist featured on CBC Radio, NPR, WSM, BBC Radio and other campus radio stations. He collaborated with Serena Ryer (All Over) and has played with acts such as Ron Sexsmith, the Sadies, Jesse Winchester, Fred Eaglesmith, the Skydiggers and Doug Paisley.
Opening for Leger is Kenny Roby of 6 String Drag.
Roby has been band has been performing and recording together since 1993.
“There was a feeling back then of promise and that you might actually make a living at music someday,” said Roby. “I’m not sure if 6 String Drag ever expected to play any stadiums, but we thought me might make a living in an NRBQ kind of way.”
Roby is currently touring with 6 String Drag to promote their new album Top of the World.
On the latest album, 6 String Drag explores the genres of British Invasion pop, 70s rock and punk, Americana and more.
“I think some of the songs lean towards influences of certain artists, but not as an overall approach to a whole album,” said Roby in a press release. “We have always listened to classic bands like the Kinks, Stones, Beatles, Them and Van Morrison, The Band, etc. And there’s the whole punk rock and 70s rock thing that always comes into play. The whole band had actually been getting into Rockpile, Thin Lizzy and Mott the Hoople when we were in the process of making the record, so that probably seeped in on this record a little.”
Roby will be performing solo at Crow in Collingwood on Friday, Aug. 17 starting at 9:30 p.m.
