Downhill racers score OFSAA podium finishes

Both Collingwood high schools earned medals at the OFSAA alpine ski championships last week.

Collingwood high school athletes brought home some new banners to hang at their schools after the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) alpine ski championships.

Jean Vanier Catholic High School took home banners for a bronze medal finish in the team category for the Open Girl’s Slalom event, and the Open Boy’s Slalom event.

Jean Vanier’s skiers also won individual medals in four events. Sophia Stone won a bronze medal in the Giant Slalom race, Emma Gosselin won a bronze medal in the Open Girl’s Slalom race and gold in the open girl’s giant slalom, and Brian Donnelly won a bronze in Open Boy’s Slalom.

Collingwood Collegiate Institute athletes took some banners home as well with the Open Boy’s Slalom team winning silver, the Open Girl’s Giant Slalom team winning gold, and the Open Boy’s Giant Slalom team winning gold.

The races took place at Osler Bluff Ski Club on Feb. 19-26.
