The cost of living is skyrocketing, and as a result, many hard-working individuals and families are finding it increasingly difficult to secure a stable and secure place to call home.
On Tuesday, June 6 from 6 to 8 p.m., the Town of Collingwood, in collaboration with the town's affordable housing task force, is hosting a virtual information session about the development of an affordable housing master plan for the town.
The affordable housing master plan will give the town prioritized, costed and actionable direction to play its role in addressing the affordable housing crisis.
“Housing affordability is a critical issue. If we want a sustainable community, we need housing for people who work in our town,” said Mayor Yvonne Hamlin in a news release. “The lack of affordable housing has a ripple effect that touches every aspect of our lives.”
Community members are invited to learn about current housing needs and affordability challenges in Collingwood, with an overview of the housing needs assessment (to be released later this month). This assessment will include a comprehensive market survey of the rental, resale and new home sale market and will provide a snapshot of current Collingwood-specific market pricing, trends, and characteristics, including the impact of rising interest rates.
Participants will also learn about next steps in the master plan process and will have an opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts.
