In collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), an influenza outbreak has been declared on the Medical unit of Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH).

To safeguard patients and staff, visitor restrictions are now in effect for the Medical unit, the hospital said Friday in a news release.

Visitors are only permitted in cases involving palliative or end-of-life patients, for essential caregivers, or with prior approval from the Department Manager or Resource Nurse.

For essential caregivers and visitors on non-outbreak units, masking is mandatory in all patient rooms, the hospital said.

Guests are also being asked not to eat or drink in patient rooms, however the hospital’s cafeteria remains open for your convenience.

"We kindly remind visitors feeling unwell to delay their visit until they have fully recovered," the hospital said.

"Additionally, we encourage everyone to practice thorough hand hygiene by using the sanitizing stations located throughout the hospital."

CGMH said it greatly appreciates the community's cooperation and understanding as it continues to implement precautionary measures to safeguard the health of our patients, staff, and visitors.
