A developer has now sent a cheque to the Municipality of Grey Highlands for a previously unpaid $5,000 sponsorship for a 2022 charity rodeo event.

Town staff brought the matter up to Grey Highlands council at the beginning of July, 2024, stating the developer, Flato Developments Inc., committed sponsorships of $5,000 for 2021 and 2022, but had only paid the 2021 amount. Staff said the money, if not received, would have to be deducted from the proceeds of the Grey Highlands RAM Rodeo event, which supports the Markdale Hospital Foundation.

The staff report to council noted "repeated attempts" were made to contact Flato Developments about the sponsorship.

Flato didn't respond to requests from CollingwoodToday prior to the news being published, but has since reached out to explain the missed payment was the result of staff changes in 2022.

"When the matter was first brought to our attention [July 5] it was immediately rectified," stated an email from Nazy Majidi, VP of development and legal counsel for Flato Developments Inc.

Grey Highlands town hall has confirmed it received the cheque.

Over the past four years, proceeds from the rodeo have contributed $122,000 to the foundation.
