Collingwood's hospital is getting a new X-ray machine in September and construction is underway to make a spot for it.

Officials at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH) expect to receive the new "state-of-the-art" machine in early September and construction on the X-ray room that will hold it began on July 22.

As a result, the hospital is down to one X-ray machine.

"We are taking every measure to minimize the impact on our patients during this time," states a news release from the hospital. "Our Emergency Department and See and Treat patients will continue to be our top priority and will be seen based on medical urgency."

Walk-ins will still be accommodated, but the hospital is encouraging outpatients to use its online booking system for a more "streamlined" experience.

The online booking system is new as of July 22. The steps for booking an X-ray appointment are as follows:
1. Visit the CGMH Diagnostic Imaging Webpage at cgmh.on.ca/programs-services/diagnostic-imaging
2. Select the “Click Here to Book" button.
3. Select your preferred date and time from the available slots.
4. Fill in your details and book.

A confirmation email will be sent to those who book appointments online.

"Our team will do our best to honour appointment times, but please be aware that delays may occur due to the nature of medical procedures and urgent care needs," states the hospital's news release.

The new X-ray machine is thanks to donations from the community to the hospital foundation. While the province does cover hospital operating costs, the money to buy equipment for the hospital has to be raised by the foundation through donations.

"This new X-ray machine exemplifies the generosity of our community and the support of our partners at the CGMH Foundation. Together, we are bringing cutting-edge technology to South Georgian Bay, ensuring the best possible care for our patients, right here at home," states the news release.
