Each year, the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) holds their Celebrating Excellence Evening — an event to recognize the incredible achievements of SMCDSB students and staff. Nominations are officially open for the 2025 Celebrating Excellence Awards!
“This event is one of the highlights of our school year,” says Maria Hardie, Board Chair. “So many students and staff achieve remarkable things inside and outside the classroom. Celebrating Excellence allows us to come together and honour these exceptional individuals during a truly memorable evening.”
All selected award recipients will be invited to attend an event on Thursday, May 22, which is made possible through donations and volunteer contributions.
Nominations are currently being accepted for the following award categories:
Empower Simcoe Inclusion Excellence Awards — Educators and students who demonstrate unwavering compassion, innovative thinking, and a commitment to inclusion for students with intellectual disabilities. Please visit the Empower Simcoe website to nominate a student or staff member for this year's Inclusion Excellence Awards.
Seton Awards for Faith and Service — Awarded to up to four individuals or groups who exemplify what it means to be part of Catholic education. This may include those who have gone above and beyond with social justice activities, community service, volunteer endeavours, or fostering a more faith-filled community.
Lwanga Equity Vanguard Awards — Awarded to up to four individuals or groups who, through their contributions to equity and inclusion, have worked to develop trusting relationships and foster deeper understandings for the benefit of everyone.
Provincial or National Achievements in Academics, Arts and Athletics — Awarded to individuals or groups who have achieved an official certificate of recognition at the provincial or national level. In the case of competition, the committee typically recognizes individuals who have placed in the top three in their field.
Outstanding Graduates — Awarded to one individual from each Catholic high school who has made exceptional contributions since graduation. Consideration will only be given to students who have graduated from SMCDSB. Individuals who are employed by SMCDSB cannot be considered for this award.
Nominations can be submitted using the Celebrating Excellence Nomination Form until Friday, April 4.
