NEWS RELEASE
POLLINATE COLLINGWOOD
***************************
Pollinate Collingwood is celebrating our community’s hard work in support of native pollinators by hosting a free movie screening.
The presentation of Hometown Habitat, Stories of Bringing Nature Home will be shown on Oct. 7 at the Wild Stand General Store, starting at 7 p.m. Each attendee will go home with a free native plant so everyone can begin to improve their local habitat.
Hometown Habitat is a documentary created by The Meadow Project. The 90-minute film focuses on showing how and why native plants are critical to the survival and vitality of local ecosystems. The goal of the documentary is to grow an army of habitat heroes.
Pollinate Collingwood is a community-led grassroots initiative supported by the Town of Collingwood and local residents, businesses and organizations. Over the past 18 months, they have been working to improve local habitat for Ontario’s native pollinators while building a community of native habitat enthusiasts.
The group is growing a network of native gardens and habitat across the Town of Collingwood, providing educational talks and events, giving away hundreds of native plants to residents and visitors, and donating funds and books to local schools.
With the fall here, Pollinate Collingwood wants to share a reminder to “leave the leaves” and stems in gardens for the winter, to provide overwintering habitat for our native pollinators. As these critters wait for spring, Pollinate Collingwood will be developing a new pollinator strategy with the Town of Collingwood.
Tickets for the movie are available via pollinatecollingwood.ca/join or Facebook Pollinate Collingwood.
Attendees are to bring their own chairs and blankets. All are encouraged to use the local bike trails as parking is limited.
Refreshments will be available from Paisano Vegano and The Wild Stand General Store. Germinate Holistic Arts (botanical salves and arts) and eARTh Revival (native plants and arts) will have products for purchase.
Through the generous financial donations of Julie Di Lorenzo and countless others in our community we are able to bring this free documentary and other events to you.
