Original art collected over several years by a Wasaga Beach resident will be on display and up for sale in a pop-up event at the library next week.

David Spector, who lives part-time in Wasaga Beach, will be showcasing some of the Indigenous art he has collected and purchased from the artists.

"I've been collecting for 35 years," said Spector, noting some of the artists have stayed at his properties in Wasaga Beach to paint.

Spector is not Indigenous himself, he was born in Canada and comes from a Jewish heritage. He said he visited reserves in Canada and loved the art he found there. The style to be featured in the one-day show is mostly woodland art by Six Nations artists.

"I feel Indigenous art has just started to take off, and he's seen an increased interest from art collectors in Germany, France, China, Persia and Canada.

Spector, owner of Shorelane Art, has a vast art collection, and has decided to downsize it as he gets older. He'll be bringing about 60 pieces to the library on Dec. 16.

Some of the artists featured include Jay Bell Redbird, Christian Morrisseah, Roy Thomas, Stephen Snake, Frank Poison, Richard Bedwash, and Brian Marion.

The show will take place at the Collingwood Public Library in the Free Schools Room from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 16.
