Town staff and council will be holding a virtual public meeting to gather feedback on a proposed six-storey condo/commercial space development on Collingwood’s waterfront.
The project is called Collingwood Harbour House, and it would be located in the same area where the former Collingwood Shipyards built and launched ships.
The developer is proposing a six-storey commercial-residential building on the corner of Huron Street and Heritage Drive (31 Huron St.). The site is across the road from the Collingwood Museum.
According to the planning application documents, Harbour House would include 130 condos and between 1,000 and 1,500 square metres of ground-floor commercial space. The proposal also includes two levels of underground parking and some surface parking space.
The building would be an L-shape with frontage on Huron Street and the other section running along the western side of the property. The parking lot is situated off Heritage Drive in the site plan application drawings.
The public meeting, which takes place on May 17 shortly after the start of the council meeting at 5 p.m., is part of the application process for a zoning bylaw amendment required for the development to proceed as proposed.
Under the town’s current official plan, the area is designated under a shipyards special policy, which does permit mixed-use, six-storey buildings with up to 130 dwelling units.
The site is not included in the Collingwood Downtown Heritage Conservation District, but is just outside the border.
