With a new year came new costs to ride the bus in Collingwood.

As of Jan. 1, new fare rates came into effect for users of CollTrans, run through Landmark. The new rates were approved through council’s approval of 2025 user fees, which happened at their Dec. 16 regular meeting.

“In proportion to the significantly increased cost of operations – gas, parts, labour – the fare increases are modest,” notes a town release sent out on the change on Wednesday (Jan. 22).

Currently, town transit runs 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.

This year, fares are increasing after a five-year hold: adults now pay $2.25 (up from $2), student/seniors pay $1.75 (up from $1.50). Children under five ride for free.

The student monthly pass is now $15 (reduced from $30), while a monthly pass is $41 for adults (increased from $40) and $31 for seniors (increased from $30).
