The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported six new COVID-19 cases in its July 7 update.
Two of the new cases are Simcoe County residents and four are from Muskoka.
There are 55 active cases in the region.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,305 cases of COVID-19 with 11,577 of those cases recovered and 251 cases ending in death.
There are 10 people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19 related illness, which includes one new hospitalization since yesterday.
The health unit has reported a total of 4,934 variant strain cases, with 30 of those still active.
It can take several days to confirm a variant strain after a positive COVID-19 test result is reported to the health unit.
Today's update also includes the following information on variants of concern:
- 3,995 local cases have tested positive for the COVID-19 variant of concern B.1.1.7 (alpha), up by two since yesterday
- 164 cases have tested positive for the P.1 (gamma) variant of concern, no increase
- 32 cases have tested positive for the B.1.351 (beta) variant of concern, no increase
- 70 cases have tested positive for the B.1.617.2 (delta) variant of concern, up by 13 since yesterday
- 673 cases have screened positive (awaiting confirmatory testing).
To date, 398,219 Simcoe-Muskoka residents (65.9 per cent of the population) region have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19, and 214,422 people (35.5 per cent of the population) have received two doses.
According to the health unit, 43 per cent of the region's adult population (aged 18 and over) have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, and another 33 per cent have received one dose. The remaining 24 per cent is unvaccinated.
Anyone aged 12 years or older living in Simcoe-Muskoka region can book their first or second dose of vaccine online via Ontario vaccine booking system. More appointments are added regularly for clinics throughout the region.
The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified).
- Barrie (1): One youth under 18 years old whose case is linked to close contact with another case.
- Bradford (1): One person between 35 and 44 years old.
- There are four cases from Muskoka today, three in Lake of Bays and one in Huntsville.
