Sixth Street will be closed from Spruce Street to Walnut street later this week.
A notice posted to the Town of Collingwood website indicates the street will be closed on Thursday (Sept. 5) from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. for tree removal.
The town announced earlier this spring it would be marking trees for removal.
Partly, the town’s engineering and public works department will be removing trees that are sick, dead, dying, and hazardous. The town will also be marking some Ash trees infested by the Emerald Ash Borer, and expected to die from it.
Trees marked in green dots will be treated with TreeAzin in an attempt to save the tree from the borer.
Trees marked with a yellow X will not survive the borer. Other trees slated for removal will be marked with a red R.
Currently, the town is undertaking an Urban Forest Management Plan (you can learn more about it here), and that includes taking a full inventory of the town’s trees and the health of them. The evaluation will guide the town’s tree management efforts this summer.
According to the press release issued in the spring, trees are removed when they become hazardous and could potentially fall on a busy street or sidewalk. The town will prioritize the removal of hazardous trees over those along the side of a trail.
The town of Collingwood plants approximately 125 trees annually.
