A warning against swimming at the western beach at Sunset Point Park has been taken down today after the latest round of water sample testing showed decreased levels of bacteria.

A swimming advisory was posted at the beach at 60 Saint Lawrence Street on Aug. 26 and removed today.

Advisories recommend against swimming because of elevated levels of E. coli bacteria confirmed through routine water testing performed by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

Bacteria levels can increase after a heavy rainfall, with cloudy water, after a large number of swimmers have used the water, because of birds in the water, and for a number of other reasons. You can learn more about beach water quality and the factors influencing bacteria growth through the health unit website here.
