A Thornbury artist has had a heck of a year.
Harvey Bodach submitted five of his paintings to gallery competitions and group exhibitions in 2024. Three earned a single award, while another earned two.
Bodach taught visual art and multimedia at the secondary level in Peel Region until his retirement in 2019. However, when he came home at the end of a day of teaching, he said he would spend time putting paintbrush to canvas, painting mostly wildlife and landscapes.
Since his retirement from teaching, he shifted into making art full-time while moving to Thornbury.
Bodach made two submissions to the Federation of Canadian Artists and their Federation Gallery in Vancouver, B.C. this year. He won a second place award each for his acrylic painting “Ferruginous Hawk passing through a Carolinian Forest” in June and “Yellow Birch at Sunset after a Rain with perching Great Horned Owl” in December.
Three other submissions were made to the Camelback Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona. All acrylic paintings, Bodach snagged a Gold Award for “Canada Lynx in Repose on a Moonlit Winter Night” in November, a Finalist Award for “Sunrise Alert – Male & Female Cougar Pair Portrait” in November and a Juror’s Choice Award for “Ferruginous Hawk passing through a Carolinian Forest” in October.
