The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported three new COVID-19 cases since today (June 29).
There are 79 active cases in the region.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,267 cases of COVID-19 with 11,517 of those cases recovered and 249 cases ending in death.
There are 12 people from Simcoe County and one person from Muskoka hospitalized with COVID-19 related illness, which includes one new hospitalization since yesterday.
The health unit has reported a total of 4,906 variant strain cases, with 44 of those still active.
It can take several days to confirm a variant strain after a positive COVID-19 test result is reported to the health unit.
Today's update also includes the following information on variants of concern:
- 3,988 local cases have tested positive for the COVID-19 variant of concern B.1.1.7 (alpha), up by three cases since yesterday
- 164 cases have tested positive for the P.1 (gamma) variant of concern, no increase
- 32 cases have tested positive for the B.1.351 (beta) variant of concern, no increase
- 52 cases have tested positive for the B.1.617.2 (delta) variant of concern, up by one case from yesterday
- 670 cases have screened positive (awaiting confirmatory testing).
To date, 391,576 Simcoe-Muskoka residents (64.8 per cent of the population) region have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19, and 158,010 people (26.1 per cent of the population) have received two doses.
According to the health unit, 32 per cent of the region's adult population (aged 18 and over) have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, and another 43 per cent have received one dose. The remaining 25 per cent is unvaccinated.
There are three active outbreaks in the region. The newest outbreak is at a construction site, and was declared June 25. There is one case reported for the outbreak.
There are two outbreaks at group homes in Simcoe County. One outbreak involves six cases (declared June 8) and the other involves 17 cases (declared June 11). Both are unchanged since Friday's report.
Anyone aged 12 years or older living in Simcoe-Muskoka region can book their first or second dose of vaccine online via Ontario vaccine booking system. More appointments are added regularly for clinics throughout the region.
The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified).
- Barrie (2): One person between 18 and 34 years old and one person between 35 and 44 years old.
- The other case reported today is in Bracebridge, in Muskoka District.
