Last year, Chabad Collingwood introduced a beautiful new tradition to Blue Mountain Village, and I’m thrilled to share that it’s back!

On Sunday, Dec. 29, at 5:00 PM, the Second Annual Outdoor Menorah Lighting takes place on the Subaru Stage.

The event that promises to bring warmth, light, and joy to our community.

The menorah lighting is the centerpiece of this celebration—a timeless symbol of the miracle of Chanukah. Over 2,000 years ago, the Maccabees reclaimed the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, and a single day’s supply of oil miraculously burned for eight days.

Today, lighting the menorah reminds us that even a small light can dispel great darkness and that faith and perseverance can overcome the greatest challenges.

But let’s be honest, it’s not just the menorah lighting that gets people excited—Chanukah wouldn’t be complete without the delicious treats. Latkes (crispy potato pancakes) and donuts will be served to all who join, adding flavour to this festive evening. If you’ve never tried them before, trust me—they’re worth coming out for.

The event will also feature music, raffles, and a lively celebration that highlights the joy and resilience of the Chanukah story. Everyone is invited, regardless of background, to join in this evening of light, unity, and celebration. Chanukah’s message of triumph and hope is universal, and this event is a chance to come together as a community and share its timeless meaning.

Last year’s menorah lighting was a truly moving event, and it’s so exciting to see it grow into an annual tradition. This celebration of light and unity wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of our sponsors, Neil and Tammy Berg and the Lighthouse Group, as well as the energy and enthusiasm of our community volunteers and attendees.

So, bundle up, bring your family and friends, and join us as we light up the night with the menorah, the delicious aroma of latkes and donuts, and the joy of Chanukah.
