Two new crosswalks are slated to be installed at key spots around town as early as this evening and into the near future.
At council on Monday night, councillors asked staff for updates on traffic-calming measures scheduled to take place in the area of Third and Cedar Streets, as well as the Hamilton Drain Crossing, located on Hurontario Street south of Stanley Street.
Director of public works Brian MacDonald provided an update on Cedar and Third Streets at the end of the meeting.
“We have enhanced the visibility of the stop sign by including a marker on the post that provides enhanced visibility, as well as line painting stop bars for the stop on Cedar Street,” said MacDonald. “In addition, we’ve also completed our analysis of a warrant for a crosswalk at that location and it does warrant a crosswalk, so we will be including it in our 2020 budget for council’s consideration.”
The new crosswalk at the Hamilton Drain Crossing will include button-activated flashing lights, and will join the trail system together in the area.
“I can advise council that pending weather on Tuesday night (Oct. 29), we’ll be painting the crosswalk on Hurontario, and it will be open and functional on Wednesday morning,” said MacDonald.
“So it will be there for Halloween?” asked Mayor Brian Saunderson.
“That is correct, as long as it doesn’t rain tomorrow night,” said MacDonald.
