VIDEO:Collingwood remembers: hundreds turn up for cenotaph service

The Collingwood Legion hosted the annual Remembrance Day wreath-laying service to honour the veterans of war

"At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them."

Several hundred people gathered at the cenotaph on the Collingwood Museum grounds this morning shortly before 11 a.m. for the annual Remembrance Day service.

Hosted by the Collingwood Legion Branch 63, the wreath-laying service began with a parade led by 17 pipers and drummers from the Bienn Gorm Highlanders, legion members, about 90 military personnel from the Canadian Forces Military Police Academy in Borden, members of town council, OPP, fire, and members of the Scouts and Guides.

The service was led by Coun. Chris Baines. Rev. Brian Goodings delivered a message of hope, and Lorne Kenney recited In Flanders Fields.

The parade commander was Ken Templeman. Deb Fitzsimmons led the crowd in O Canada and in singing a hymn and the royal anthem. Shiela Stewart played the Lament on the pipes, and Rob Chambers played The Last Post on the trumpet.
