Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 197 calls for service over the long weekend and conducted numerous RIDE check initiatives with the focus on traffic safety.
One such initiative was a RIDE program on Grey Road 19 at 11 a.m. on Monday morning. In total during this one RIDE officers issued two charges under the Cannabis Act, five tickets were issued for not wearing seatbelts, one Liquor Licence Act charge, one suspended driver and two expired validation tags and one vehicle was impounded for seven days.
This emphasizes why OPP officers conduct RIDE stops at any time of the day or night as officers look for much more than just impaired drivers but also infractions related driving and licencing.
Officers also had to respond to 45 calls related to accidental 911 calls, 12 noise complaints, six motor vehicle collisions and only one resulted in minor injuries to the involved party, 20 'police assistance' calls for service that can vary from assisting paramedics or offering a complainant with advice on a legal matter or finding emergency lodging with community partners in our area.
Officers also issued numerous provincial offence notices (tickets), namely 187 for speeding, 13 for seatbelt infractions, 4 for distracted driving and another 47 for various Highway Traffic Act offences.
