Huronia West Ontario Provincial Police pulled over the driver of a car with a defective headlight and ended up charging the man for drunk driving and four other offences.

According to OPP, officers stopped a driver on Mosley Street in Wasaga Beach at 52nd Street on June 1 around 10:30 p.m. because the vehicle had a defective headlight.

After speaking with the driver, officers determined a roadside alcohol screening was required, and the driver failed the test.

Police charged a 23-year-old Wasaga Beach man with the following:

  • Operation while impaired - 80+
  • Driving a motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Improper tires
  • Driving without proper headlights
  • Fail to surrender insurance card

Police suspended the man's licence for 90 days and impounded the vehicle for seven days. There are also fines attached to the offences.

The driver will face the charges in court later.

Minutes later, the same OPP officer stopped a vehicle on Main Street in Wasaga Beach because of a defective licence plate light.

Again, the driver was given a roadside alcohol screening and failed.

Police charged a 46-year-old Mississauga man with:

  • Operation while impaired - 80+
  • Improper number plate light

The 46-year-old also faces a 90-day driver's licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment plus fines. He will face the impaired charge in court later.

"The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol & drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. If you suspect someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, please call 9-1-1 to report it," states a news release.
