Seven traffic fatalities occurred on Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-patrolled roads and trails on the Labour Day long weekend.
The fatalities included two pedestrians, a motorcyclist and an off-road vehicle driver.
Police laid 9,143 traffic/marine and Criminal Code charges on the weekend.
“Aggressive drivers were the most significant offenders, making roads unsafe for the many families and other people travelling throughout the province to take in the last long weekend of summer,” police said in a news release.
Officers laid 4,841 speeding charges and 124 stunt driving/racing charges. Other charges were laid for not wearing a seatbelt (545), impaired driving (234) and distracted driving (102).
