Several people were slapped with impaired driving charges over the last three days by officers from the Huronia West detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.
Among those charged is a driver who, police say, crashed their car and then tried to flee the scene, and another who ran from police as they tried to give him a breathalyzer test after pulling him over
Huronia West OPP report that on Oct. 30, just before 6:30 p.m. officers responded to a single-vehicle collision in Wasaga Beach involving a motorcycle.
"Upon arrival the driver had fled the scene but was picked up by officers a short time later," states an OPP news release.
The 45-year-old driver from Bradford was given a roadside alcohol screening test, and received a three-day driving suspension. Police also charged the driver for failing to remain at a collision, careless driving, having care or control of a vehicle with an open container of liquor, and driving a vehicle with liquor readily available.
At 9:30 p.m. on the same day, Huronia West OPP officers stopped a driver and vehicle in Clearview Township, but the driver fled the scene after officers gave him a roadside alcohol screening test. The 32-year-old Wasaga Beach man was picked up by police shortly after fleeing from them and was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while impaired with a blood alcohol content over 80, flight from a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
Huronia West OPP pulled more drivers off the road and charged them with impaired driving on Oct. 29.
A 43-year-old from Nottawa faces charges of driving while impaired, resisting a peace officer, and failing or refusing to comply with a demand, following a traffic stop in Clearview Township at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 29.
At 9:07 p.m. the same day in Springwater Township, officers charged a 24-year-old novice driver from Port McNicoll with driving with a blood alcohol content above zero.
At 9:55 p.m. in Clearview Township, officers clocked a vehicle going 136 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. The 33-year-old Stayner driver faces impaired driving charges, and charges for dangerous driving.
Just before midnight, officers stopped another speeding vehicle, this one in Wasaga Beach, and charged the 36-year-old Wasaga Beach driver with impaired driving.
All the accused drivers will face their charges in court later.
"Drivers and members of the public are reminded to respect our communities, comply with all laws, and not jeopardize the safety of our citizens or our neighborhoods with risky, illegal, and dangerous actions," stated an OPP news release.
