Former Markdale Hospital broken into for second time: OPP

Damage to the property estimated at more than $100,000 as copper pipe, variety of tools reported stolen

GREY HIGHLANDS - The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a report of a break and enter at the former hospital in Markdale on Isla Street. 

On July 2, 2024, the Grey Bruce OPP are investigating a report of a break and enter to the former Markdale Hospital which has been closed since 2023. Police attended and observed that there was damage in the building and items stolen from the property. Damage to the property exceeds $100,000. 

Stolen items are:

  • One Milwaukee 18-volt drill
  • One Milwaukee 18-volt impact driver
  • Two Ridged pipe wrenches 16- or 18-inch aluminum
  • Other hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, and adjustable wrenches
  • Copper pipe

This is the second time the former hospital was broken into. The first time was October 2023 at which time a 4-foot and 6-foot ladder was stolen along with a garbage can and fire extinguisher.

The Grey Bruce OPP is asking the public to report any suspicious activity to the police.
