Police have released the names of the two women who died in an apartment building fire last week.
Mary McOuat, 61, died in the fire and her body was found at the scene.
Ruth Hall, 89, was in a different unit from where the fire started, and she died at the hospital. According to OPP, the coroner determined smoke inhalation was a contributing factor in Hall's death.
The fire started in the apartment building at 535 Tenth Street around 1 a.m. on Sept. 20. The Collingwood Fire Department responded and called in support from neighbouring fire departments.
Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal investigated the fatal fire, but according to OPP the investigation is complete and the fire was deemed not suspicious.
This is the first fatal fire in Collingwood since 2019.
