Police patrolling the Wasaga Beach and Clearview area this weekend laid five impaired driving and seven stunt driving charges among the 483 traffic-related charges issued over three days.

Patrols from the Huronia West Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) patrolled the roads in Clearview, Wasaga Beach and Springwater between Aug. 2 and 5 as part of a national traffic safety initiative campaign aiming to increase public compliance with traffic laws. The campaign targeted behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other road users at risk.

To that end, police issued 483 charges over those three days, including 124 for speeding, 44 for seatbelts, and 258 other provincial traffic charges, in addition to the seven stunt and five impaired driving charges.

Anyone charged with stunt driving was given a 30-day license suspension and their vehicles were impounded for 14 days.

"The Huronia West Detachment would like to remind the public that drivers and other road users can significantly contribute to safer roads by avoiding taking unnecessary risks and complying with all traffic laws," states a news release from OPP.
