RIDE stop leads to weapon and drug charges

A search of one vehicle led to the seizure of cocaine, a pellet handgun, a knife and other drug paraphernalia, say police

COLLINGWOOD AND BLUE MOUNTAINS DETACHMENT OF THE ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE

Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested two people last night as a result of a RIDE spot check in the town of Collingwood. 

On Feb. 21, 2022, shortly after 11:00 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle while conducting a RIDE initiative on Sixth Street in Collingwood. An investigation commenced, which led to the seizure of cocaine, a pellet handgun, a spring-loaded knife and drug paraphernalia. 

As a result of the investigation, the driver, Kendra Hewitt, 30 year old, from Collingwood, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Uttering threats
  • Take motor vehicle without consent
  • Operation while impaired by drug
  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Driving while under suspension

The accused is scheduled to appear on April 5, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood. 

As well, the passenger, Bradley Elliott, 37 years old, from Wasaga Beach, has been charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a prohibited device
  • Disobeying a court order - four counts 

The accused is scheduled to appear on March 29, 2022, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood.
